This iReport is part of an assignment:
Morning Express with Robin Meade |
Afterschool Program Day of Service
Project Youth Afterschool Programs, of The Family Resource Center @ Gorham, put on a special reading event for Martin Luther King's Day of Service called Ready, Set, Read. Youth in grades 6-8 in the Gorham Afterschool Program have created a group called Reading Warriors. The objective is to read to and with children grades 3 and below. The goal is to help make reading fun so kids want to read! Secondly, they are trying to bridge the gap for students reading below grade level, even if it means just learning one new word. We have just been awarded a grant from State Farm Companies Foundation and Youth Service America so that we can buy new books for more upcoming reading events. We would like to thank them for making it possible for us to have a wider assortment of books for both the beginning readers and the more advanced ones! :)
