I learned of an impending job loss in September 2008 & immediately began looking for a new position. In January 2009 my contract ended as the firm I worked in leased off 2 floors of a 5 floor office. For a while we lived on credit cards, income tax, and savings, then my fiance got a job she loved but was extremely under paid. At this point we were "couch surfing". On 1000 a month we were keeping ourselves fed and paying the bills, with the exception of 1. My car. After letting that go as a voluntary repo we were just barely making it.

In September of this year we moved in with her mother & I finally broke down & applied for unemployment. I've gotten very few interviews & was turned down for a government job because of bad credit...wait a minute hasn't the government given billions to banks on the verge of bankruptcy? So their willing to give a big business the benefit of the doubt but somebody qualified for a job they are offering that got hit hard by the economy can go to hell?

Unemployment is running out, my tax return looks like crap because I only worked 1 month this year, and to top it all off I need to raise $3000 by March or I don't get to see my kids this year (They live overseas with their German mother who refuses to pay airfare) the younger of which is having so many problems with her mom she wants to live with me here.

State of the Union? Can't say it any other way, it SUCKS!
