Will the GOP play nice?
If you didn't see Obama at the RNC Q&A meeting yesterday, well CNN is airing it again at 6:00 Sat, according to the Wolf. Everyone should watch it if you really care about what's going on. Obama went into the lion's den and he wasn't armed with a pre-written speech or his trusty TelePrompTer. A single man went in there and took the best shots from the entire RNC. Whether you agree with his principles or not, it is hard to argue with him that the grid lock being caused in Congress is completely unnecessary. He didn't just bash Republicans like many idiots have claimed already. He accepted blame personally which no republican has ever done, he blamed the Dems, and he called out the GOP as well.
I believe everyone handled themselves more respectfully than I thought they would, but every scripted question for the president began with hugs and kisses and quickly degraded into a typical talking point. That was a mistake because by nature of being President and very intelligent, Obama understands what's going on better than any of these delusional Reps and he's heard all these BS talking points a thousand times before. He scolded them when he had to, he appreciated them when they brought up good points, and he did it all in a way that allowed everyone to walk away with their egos intact. That's the most important thing. If he wants them to warm up to working with America instead of against us, then he can't go around just bruising egos and laying down the law.
Today is a new day in America because the Republicans are on notice. If the leadership can keep on them about cooperating for the sake of the people that elected them, rather than letting this opportunity slip away, we may all get out of this mess a little sooner and much less angry with each other. You cannot deny the ferocity and ridiculousness of the Republican attacks. You cannot deny that they have been the loudest and most obnoxious, in your face, TV add taking, destruction of America praying, fact distorting, obstructionists. Look at the voting records and the abuse of the filibuster. Watch the attack adds. This country has never seen anything like this from either party. The people are slowly starting to wake up to the fact that the President cannot make change by himself. He never claimed he could. Before we can fix what's going on, we have to agree that it's broken. I think average Americans can see something's broken, but the Republicans refuse to admit that anything they were doing before was wrong as they keep shoving their same ideas down our throats that were in full deployment when the country just mysteriously fell apart out of thin air.
The Republicans still think giving millionaires, billionaires, and giant corporations massive tax cuts will solve our problems alone. Empowering the people who became very rich during the Bush days while the average guy lost everything is not an option. These people have all the money, why do they need more? They could invest in America right now, but they choose not to. Do you think giving them more tax cuts will change their minds from hibernating through the tough times or making low yield investments for the sake of keeping the rest of us afloat? The problem with that is these people have had all these tax cuts for the last 8-9 years and look what happened. I know you can argue with the philosophy, but can you argue with the results? Small businesses have been ignored and corporations have gobbled up everything they can. We need balance in the economy. We need big companies, but we also need small companies, local economies. Many small factory towns have turned into Unemploymentville due to Bush's outsourcing. How can you ignore this? If these communities didn't rely on one big corporation and had more small businesses, then they might have a chance right now.
We need to renew the American Dream! What happened to the little guy making something of him or herself from nothing? Those stories were getting further and fewer between during the Bush days. Obama sees the necessity of balance and understands that extremist ideology of empowering one group always ends in disaster. Corporations may hire by the 100s, but they quickly lay off by the 100s too. Small businesses rely on a small group of employees, but they are more likely to keep the employees until the whole ship sinks. They are more caring as the employees are like family, not a number climbing the ladder at any cost. Small businesses are easy to start up and are generally inexpensive to get going compared to a massive corporate operation. If you Republicans are so enamored with the idea of everyone fending for themselves, then why deny the empowerment of the little guy with an American Dream over empowering the bastards who already have it all?
