iReport —

In preparation for the next major snow storm in the Washington, DC area, on Thursday evening I went to the Giant grocery store in North Bethesda, Maryland.  I was surprised to find bare shelves!  Most of the produce was gone.  No eggs, no cheese, no potatoes, no meat, and only some orange juice and a few loaves of bread.  With Superbowl weekend and a Blizzaster headed our way, the chip aisle was empty except for a few bags of pretzels.

Since there was a line for a grocery cart and bare shelves, I decided to leave and come back once the shelves were restocked.  I returned to Giant on Friday morning at 7am.  The store had more people and just as chaotic as the night before.  However, there was some hope with boxes of food being unpacked and placed on the shelves.  The bread, meat, OJ, chips and some potatoes and produce were back on the shelves but going quick!  There was no sign of eggs or cheese.

Then, I walked passed all the carts waiting to check out and made my way to the end of the line at the far end of the store in the last aisle (the bread aisle).  I stood in line about an hour to check out and after that was ready to evacuate the grocery store!  A guy came up to me asking for my cart before I finished paying.  I almost gave it to him but realized I needed to get my bags of groceries to the car first.
