Autism awareness |
Types of Autism
I remember when hepatitis was just plain heaptitis. Now they know there is types A, B, C, D, E with different causes and treatments. I believe we are finding the same thing with autism. ABA is the new darling of treatments for autism, now accepted as standard by the Department of Developmental Services in California. Yet my son on ABA was a disaster. We need to be careful about providing one-size-fits-all evaluations, treatments, and judgement of the parents.
By the way, at 22, my son is working part to full time in customer service at a local drug store with no job coaching or accomodations and is living in an apartment on his own with a roommate.
