L.A. Station Fire: The unwanted gift that keeps on giving

The foothill communities were in cleanup mode this past weekend after a sudden downpour on Saturday morning turned some hillside streets into rivers. With last fall's record-setting Station Fire still fresh in the minds of local residents, the burnt and barren hills were especially vulnerable to wet weather. The winding portion of Oceanview Boulevard in upper La Canada Flintridge bore the brunt of the damage when debris basins — dams that were built as protective barriers against storm runoff — overflowed into the communities below.

1: This shopping center parking lot at the corner of Oceanview and Foothill Boulevard was again used as a staging area by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, but this time because of flash floods.

2: I've heard the signature tone for tests of the Emergency Broadcast System before, but this time it was the real deal when it was warning against flash floods on Saturday morning.

3: Parts of Foothill Boulevard in La Canada Flintridge were overflowing with water and mud.

4: News crews line up along Oceanview Boulevard as it is closed off to everyone except emergency workers and cleanup crew. A broken gas line was one of dangers of the damaged homes that were evacuated.

5: Public works trucks head up and down the hill to assist in the removal of mud.

6: One of the immense debris basins that was being cleared out before the winter storms.
