For the second year running, Facebook's 350 million users were able to take part in a couple of sessions of the World Economic Forum's Annual meeting in Davos. Last year Facebook participated on a session on the US economic stimulus package. As the thought leaders were all happily agreeing that the stimulus package was on track, above their heads Facebook ran a poll showing that 125,000 Facebook users said, 'No, it isn't' and it really changed the way the session progressed.
This year Facebook participated in a session on India in which - on the fly - they were able to instantly poll Indian Facebook users during the session on the question 'What should we expect from India.' Around 3000 members contributed to the poll.
Remarkably, Facebook is now so big and so diverse that Facebook polls are now as accurate as polls like Gallup's. The results are also so fast it changes how people react and what they do with them.
Stay tuned for more!
