Snowed OUT, Not In
Snowpocolypse, snowmagedon, or whatever you may call it, the 2010 blizzard has changed the course of, if not completely halted, most of the state of Maryland. I would give you the view from outside my bedroom window, but in a wise decision to abandon the our suburban Darnestown home for guaranteed heat, electricity, and quasi-plowed streets, the beautiful view of the wintertime landscape I am so accustomed to is temporarily unavailable.
Leaving home Friday afternoon with a few changes of clothing, our family had no idea that we would be unable to return for an unforseen period of time. Sunday evening, using a Ford Explorer, we went up to the neighborhood, only to find the top foot of snow plowed off the top of the street, with faint tire tracks from brave neiborhood soldiers with 4x4 vehicles. Three houses into the neighborhood, it became evident that the snow removal effort had ceased and retreated, and only footsteps in the 30" of snow could be seen for miles. So much for going home.
We learned monday that plows decided not to pursue any serious snow removal in the neighborhood until after the next storm wallops the area, as their efforts would be in vein on their end, since they would have to return within 48 hours. The sad part? Our neighborhood is full of professionals and doctors who are currently staying in hotels in order to go to work. Business may stop for a blizzard, but people do not.
On a brighter note, the attempted journey back home lend us some great photographs. Included photos show winter wonderlands at their finest, some snow emergency routes still covered 100% in snow, people hard at work to remove the snow, and of course, our street where the plows gave up. Enjoy!
