Obama Invites GOP to White House For Health Care Summit..Will They Go?
President Obama has invited both Republicans and Democrats to a "Health Care "Summit" February 25, to discuss the details of reform.
The GOP has suggested they have many ideas that just weren't included in the original health care bills. They claim to have been "shut out" of negotiations by by Democratic leaders of both the House and the Senate.
Here's their opportunity to prove to Americans that they too have valuable ideas to reform health care.
GOP Congressman, Eric Cantor, Republican Whip said before Obama's invitation to the health care summit to Virginian voters:
"The taxpayer ison the hook to pay for this massive government takeover of our national health care system, and President Obama promised over and over that negotiations and decisions would be transparent and broadcast on C-SPAN.
Virginians believed President Obama's promise of transparency and have the right to expect that he live up to those promises.
An open and transparent process to reform health care is essential so that Virginians can see what’s going on and decide for themselves how to reform and pay for health care.
I look forward to working with the entire Virginia Delegation in Congress to unite behind openness and call on President Obama to open up the closed doors so all Americans know what will happen to their health care."
And after the President's invitation to meet and discuss live on TV the health care issue:
"I'm not interested unless the President wants to push the reset button and start over on the health care issue," said Cantor.
There's no reason to discard a year's worth of work. Many ideas are worth keeping and many need changing.
Well, Congressman Cantor, the President has called your bluff and how did Cantor respond?
The President has said the health care summit will be broadcast live and now Republicans are not interested unless it's on their terms. Maybe they are afraid of being on camera.
How is this different from their previous attitude? What a difference one vote in the Senate makes.
Americans deserve to see the "ideas" that the GOP has been claiming to have to reform health care. Question is, "Will they show for the discussion?"
