    The Winter came to Abilene,Texas

Today February 11th a small town of about a 120,000 seen snow for the forth time this winter. The city was not hit by a blizzard but 4-6 inches makes this small town in West Texas almost immobile.

When I moved here 11 years ago I was told that Abilene only received a snow storm once every 12 years. It has not been so. We have seen at least 20 different times that snow come down on the ground and actually stayed for more then a day and accumulated 3-7 inches at a time. This winter has been crazy. There has been no rock salt or plows to make the conditions any easier for the drivers on the roads.

The biggest problem for Abilene has not been the snow and the cold temperatures but  the outrageous electric bills that everyone here in town received. Last month my wife and I received a bill for more then $677. Having two kids one being 6 years old and the other 15 months old we have to keep the heat on at about 70F at night time and it has been killing us. My wife's family members who live in an apartments received a bill for more then $400.  I don't understand how people can keep up with bills plus food in these hard economic times. That does not take in account gasoline that you need for you car. mortgages, daycare's,rent, outstanding bills, credit card bills etc.

Mr. President how can we help other countries and constantly forget the people that live here in the U.S?  I work more then 80 hours a week and my wife works at home more then 30. I still see us being unable to save money.  I understand that electric companies help under privileged families but what about the one's that don't qualify to that label but yet need help? Where is the big change that was supposed to come ? We are still sending family members, friends and church members to the wars that we are fighting spending billions and billions of dollars.

Let's make a change a real change and invest in the minds and hearts of our own citizens. Lets stop making empty promises. The citizens want to be heard and see what happens when their government actually works with them and for them. We can make a decision about increasing the number of troops in Iraq in a few days and yet  no decision about a health care bill or helping citizens that are struggling.
