Huntsville AL Airshow Disaster
This photograph was taken as a microburst hit Huntsville International Airport the afternoon of 29 June 2008 during an airshow. It was taken by Adam McMurray who took refuge under the nose of a C-17 aircraft on exhibit as the storm hit the airport with winds approaching 50 mph. "It was all over in 5 minutes," Adam told his dad. Only after he returned home did he realize the photo had captured the exact moment a large Army exhibit tent was thrown into the air. The tent can be seen in the left side of the photo and in the enlarged view. Several people were injured and there was one confirmed death of a young child. The incident happened just minutes before the Blue Angels aerobatic team was scheduled to perform.
