it was dark place with long passages and dirty rooms there was a small of old tobacco and unclean ppl at the end of one passage was a room with a locked door. mary went out into the yard to look at the room through the window but the window was boarded up and she couldent see inside she went to find aunt patience and asked her why they lived at jamaica inn.

the sudden direct question starled the woman for several seconds she was silent.

then she went red. well she said its its a very importent place here on the road the coaches pass here twice a week.

mary asked her why the rooms were never used and why the bedrooms were so dirty and only good for rats and mice.her aunt was silent for a few moments.

your uncle joss doesnt encourage ppl to stay but we do a good trade lots of men come in frome the farms for a drink there are quite a few evenings when the inn is full.

the driver of the coach says that respectable ppl dont come to jamaica inn any more he says they are afraid and that nobody has slept here  for soem time.

aunt patience whent pale. your uncle joss has a quick temper she said he is easily angered mary knew her aunt did not want ques but tried one more.

aunt patience she said why is the door at the end of the passage locked and why do coaches stop outside jamaica inn at night?

her aunts eyes lookes across the table in fear mary pushed back her chair and put her arms around aunt patienxe im sorry she said its not my buisness.

her aunt buried her face in her hands.things happen at jamaica inn, mary bad things i cant ever tell you sometimes strange men come at night your uncle takes them to that room with the locked door.

they are gone before morning and no sign is left that they have ever been if you hear them mary you must say nothing just put your hands over your ears.

then she ropse from the table and mary heard her climb the stairs with heavy feet.
