Cabrini-Green - 660 W. Division Time Lapse Demolition, Chicago, IL

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     RyFly captured the demolition of the Cabrini Green housing projects over a three-month period. The housing will be replaced with 'mixed-income' developments.

Time lapse animation of the demolition of 660 W. Division, one of the last remaining buildings within the notorious Cabrini-Green housing projects in Chicago. Since late 1999, Chicago has been working to replace the old model of isolated low income residences with new, low rise, mixed income communities all around the city. As of this posting, there are four more buildings within the old Cabrini-Green community to be demolished (two whites, two reds).

Update: As of December 9, 2010, All of the Cabrini-Green high rises have been closed permanently and are being prepared for demolition. All families have been relocated.

I live in one of the new mixed-income developments in the area and I could not be happier with it. I have gained so much respect for my neighbors that lived through such a chaotic time in this city's history and they are strong, joyful people because of and despite of it. I am excited at the chance to take part in a new chapter in this historically troubled neighborhood within Chicago.
