This iReport is part of an assignment:
Passions over health care reform |
Best Health Care in the World
The United States has the MOST EXPENSIVE health care system in the world. At the same time we have 38 million people who are un-insured. We spend 2 to 3 times more than any other modern country in the world on health care. The World Health Org rates us 34th for health care out comes. Is this the system that most Americans are happy with?
*
The next shot across the bow of this nation has been heard. A major Calif health insurer wants to raise premiums on non group policies by 29%. The average increase in health care in the last 10 years has been at 3 times the inflation rate. Meanwhile doctors, nurses and hospitals have had to deal with more work for less money as the insurance industry "negotiates" lower rates.
*
The only function that the insurance industry provides in our health care system is paying bills. The CEO of United Health Care makes $34,000 an hour.
*
The drug industry sells the same prescrition medicines to every other modern country in the world for much less than we pay here in the United States. Why?
*
Food for thought.
