We're Doing Well...Right Now....
I'm 62, my wife 54. My wife retired the first part of 2007 after working 26 years for the same employer. I'm presently working in the information technology field with an internationally based legal firm with headquarters in Houston, Texas. We were making ends meet with my wife's retirement check and my income when her x-employer asked her to return to work for them. Due to the unstable economy she returned a month ago and I'll have to say we're doing well financially at this time. We have no large savings to speak of but we're working on that. We rent a townhome and have 2 vehicles. We both carpool which relieves a lot of the stress related to the cost of gas these days. My employer contributes $115.00 per month for my transportation expenses. We have no credit card debt and will pay off one of our two vehicles next month. The other is paid off. So! I'd say we're living comfortably at this time. We're both covered with what I'd grade as good health insurance plans and have life insurance. Retirement for the both of us is no where in the near future.
