This iReport is part of an assignment:
Earthquakes in Chile |
Destruction at Museum of Contemporary Art
These images were taken on the third day after the quake in front of the MAC - Museum of Contemporary Art - here in central Santiago. I saw many cameras and tourists; people looking for evidence of the earthquake here in the city, of which there is little visible outside of broken glass and the crumbled bits where two buildings abut. The damage here is contained around the grand entrance. A sister museum - Museum of Fine Arts - is located back to back with this one and appears to have suffered no damage, at least on the exterior. This broken grand entrance, cordoned off with plastic danger tape, is strangely beautiful in that the damage is so symmetrical and seemingly deliberate. It's as though this museum of the contemporary has itself become the installation.
