Polar Bear Plunge
The 3rd Annual Grand Lake St. Mary’s Polar Bear Plunge took place on March 6, 2010. The outside temperature was a "balmy 40 degrees with the water temperature hovering at 34 degrees. The day before the event chainsaws were used to cut through the 9 inch thick ice in order to give the participants some open water in order to take the plunge. Plungers were asked to raise a “bear” minimum of $75 to participate. All activities for this plunge took place at the Celina Moose Lodge including the Post Plunge celebration and awards ceremony. This event helps raise money for the deserving Special Olympics athletes in Ohio. The Grand Lake St. Mary’s plunge is one of nine Polar Bear Plunge fundraising events in Ohio throughout the months of January – March, 2010.
