This iReport is part of an assignment:
If you ran government |
Fake pot K2 worse than real pot?
Fake pot K2 sends youngsters to hospital, so states want to ban synthetic marijuana. The reported bad things happening to kids on K2 have never been reported for kids smoking marijuana. BUT the kids can pass a drug test on K2 AND it's legal for now. So do K2 vs. pot? No say marijuana proponents like me.
Legalize marijuana. Of the top 10 reasons reported recently for legalization, #3 is the one that taxpayers should take note of:
" 3. Marijuana is too expensive for our justice system and should instead be taxed to support beneficial government programs. Law enforcement has more important responsibilities than arresting 750,000 individuals a year for marijuana possession, especially given the additional justice costs of disposing of each of these cases. Marijuana arrests make justice more expensive and less efficient in the United States, wasting jail space, clogging up court systems, and diverting time of police, attorneys, judges, and corrections officials away from violent crime, the sexual abuse of children, and terrorism. Furthermore, taxation of marijuana can provide needed and generous funding of many important criminal justice and social programs." For top 10: http://74.125.113.132/search?q=cache:4csT21YANBYJ:www.alternet.org/drugs/60959/+top+10+reasons+to+legalize+marijuana&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us
Over half of all failed drug tests from labs in the United States are for marijuana. Unlike other drugs, the metabolites from marijuana can stay in the system for up to 93 days. SO, easier to catch those who smoke. None dead from drug overdose like every other drug available, but for some reason the main drug fighting funds are directed to fighting this rather innocuous herb that has not killed anyone -- less harmful than alcohol and cigarettes which are both legal.
When one considers that depending on race anywhere from 8% to 16% of the population smoke marijuana, just think how much this costs us. Roughly 1 in 10 people!!!! PULEEEASE think. Do we have jail facilities and funds to win this war? 1 in 10 would need to be incarcerated were we to be successful. Not that I recall the exact number, but don't we have about 270 million people in the U.S.? That means we need jail space for 27 million people JUST FOR MARIJUANA. Does anyone other than me see an issue? I mean, I took math in school and it appears I may have paid more attention than those who insist we persist in stamping out the evil herb.
Give it UP people. Legalize marijuana because to do otherwise is not even feasible. Spend the money on other drugs that actually kill people like fake pot K2!
