New Yorkers to Share-a-Cab with a Stranger?

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     sjunat55 wonders if New Yorkers are really ready to share a cab with the next person in line. Last week, the city started a new share-a-cab program. “Personally, I find it hard to believe NYers will trade their signal cab hailing in the center of the street for the civilized waiting in line and reaching a common destination with strangers!” he said.
    - zdan, CNN iReport producer

Are New Yorkers ready to share a yellow cab ride with the person next in line?
You can call this new experiment cab pooling Manhattan style.
Introduced a few days ago by the city's Taxi and Limousine Commission, for the next year the city will run a pilot program of the new Group Taxi Ride.
With pick up locations set throughout Manhattan, it will allow 2 to 4 passengers to share a ride from a Group Ride stand to designated common destinations or stops along the route.
Three test pick up points have been set, on 8th Avenue and 57th Street, 3rd Avenue and 72nd Street and 72nd Street and Columbus Avenue, with destinations along Park Avenue to 42nd Street near Grand Central Station.
The program was introduced as a policy that will maximize taxi capacity during rush hours, and along with the development of traffic-free areas in Times and Herald Square and bicycle lanes throughout the city, is the latest ,move against congestion.
    One question remains.
Who will take care of the tip?
