    Doubling U.S. Exports

President Obama aims to double U.S. exports within 5 years. That's great!

Why, then is he ignoring a hugely profitable industry, based on his personal morality? What is California's biggest cash crop? What derivatives of that crop could double our exports almost single-handedly, given industrial hemp's myriad applications. Rather than importing hemp as we do now, we can grow our own!

In a 1938 Popular Mechanics article, cannabis was named the "billion dollar crop". And that was in the economy of the 1930s! What would that equate to in today's economy?

This commodity is prohibited because of early 20th century morality and seventy years of scare tactics which are not based in scientific fact.

The fact is, cannabis represents much more than the drug THC. With more than 10,000 earth-friendly uses, this banned industry could mean millions of new jobs and many billions of dollars in exports while - at the same time - meaning saving much-needed American dollars by keeping our hemp spending here at home!

It is long past time to fix this egregious wrong!
