This iReport is part of an assignment:
Schools in trouble |
Uneducate the Masses
Until the Government stops bombing other countries and starts putting that money toward We the People, things will never change. They don't want an educated populous. They want drones that get their news through pre-digested soundbites where an opinion has already been formulated for them.
I used to teach living history in Florida to school children. I actually taught colonial American history as it pertains to Spanish and British interests in the North America. I can't even count the amount of children who had no idea when the Revolutionary War began, when the Civil War started or ended, or any other basics of American history.
As a fan of history, I can also say that looking back on my highschool text books and current text books, even now they're full of white washed facts. An example I like to give is what the Civil War was fought over. In text books its slavery. That's why Lincoln fought if you ask almost anyone. It had nothing to do with tariffs, states rights, or any of that. It was slavery! But I wonder what Lincoln had to say about his intentions? Lets ask him! In an 1855 letter, "My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union."
You ask almost anyone in America, because of text books going back to who knows when, Lincoln loved the blacks and wanted them free, so we fought the war. Now is it a good thing we freed the slaves? Sure! The facts do not diminish from who we are as a nation today. Do you think German history books read "1933-1945: NOTHING HAPPENED HERE"?
Now in Texas with these text books they're talking about making America look excellent, which I can only assume means more facts will be ignored: We didn't perform expermints on African Americans during the Tuskegee Expermints, we didn't bomb Cambodia, George W. Bush prevented all terrorist attacks on his watch, and we found Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq.
This is America, the greatest country in the world because we're all free! If you disagree with that, you can just leave the country!
