Robots Compete in New York City!

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Kids from all over New York City are using their brains to get creative with robots this weekend at the FIRST Robotics Competition at the Javits Center. sjunat55 ventured over there to see these robots perform. “It was so cool to see these young students engaged in team work, so involved in technology and good fun competition!”
    - zdan, CNN iReport producer

The FIRST Robotics Competition is being held in New York City March 12 through the 14th.

Combining the thrill of a sporting event with the challenges of science and technology, it is called the "varsity sport for the mind"

Teams of students from around the area are challenged to apply math and science in the design of the robots.

Several competitions are held throughout the event, such as "Breakaway", where points are earned as robots collect soccer balls and fight each other.

The competition gives students the opportunity to apply their knowledge of science and technology and work in teams.

I took these photos on Saturday. March 13th at the Javits Center in Manhattan.
