Race: the missing factor in Obama's education plan
Post asserts that we can have all the billions of dollars in education invested, but if we don't have culturally relevant instruction, certain students will continue to lag behind, particularly black and latino students. Before you accuse me of playing the race card, think about the business world. You would never have a businessman go overseas to do business and not learn the proper protocol for shaking hands, bowing, personal space restrictions, etc. Business schools have entire courses on this. One wrong move can kill a multi-million dollar deal. If it's good for business, it should be good for our educational system. Truthfully, the educational structure we use today was set up for rich white boys from the 1500s and 1600s. Not much has been done to change the system today. If we truly value all of our students, we will learn how to make sure all students feel as though the classrooms they are in are relevant to them as well.
