    Going Naked for Autism Awareness

A group of young people in Lagos Nigeria walked the streets on bare bodies last year in an attempt to draw the attention of the government to the many issues affecting the growing number of individuals living with autism spectrum disorders. These youths are preparing for United Nation's World Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd and have threatened to walk the streets of Lagos stack naked. Disabilities without physical features continue to puzzle many Nigerians and there is a lot of stigma, ignorance associated with such conditions as autism. Those affected have minimal access to health ,education and specialised services.

A group known as Autism Associates have been very frontline in organising awareness campaigns and have scheduled a road walk tagged : Lagos Walk 4 Autism 2010. The aim of the walk is to commemorate the day and promote autism awareness. The event which is slated for 8:00am on April 2nd will start at the National stadium Surulere and the finish point is National orthopaedic hospital premises at Igbobi. I invite CNN to not only include Nigeria in their coverage for WAAD 2010 but also to let the world know how far Nigerian youths are willing to go to cause positive change in the nation.
