seconds of Second Life - Velvet Garter

A report from behind the scenes of a successful venture.

seconds of Second Life is a Snapshot of the virtual Metaverse, from humans all over the World created and still in creation. Its is a fast pulsing life with people from all around the World connected via Avatars and sometimes a magical charisma, something that is beyond the bits and bytes of the actual seen scene. In today's edition we have the pleasure to look into the World of Velvet Garter, Velvet Garter is a creation from charming Lady Judy Greymoon and her friends, she allows us a look behind the scenes and she shares gladly her secret of success.

Velvet Garter is a retreat for Ladies only and reminds a bit on one of the old Arabic Harems, a sensual World created from Women for Women. It shows also the qualities of matriarchy, where things have to be done too, but with differend tools of choice as networking and respect for the other fellow women. The results are stunning and combined with sometimes major personal development and the overcoming of often learned handicaps. Being smart, sensitive for wishes, combined with brilliantly witty is the way to go and achieve the goals.

At the beginning was the simple wish to have a house that could be a home in an enchanting environment. Soon was clear that this could be achieved best at one's own Sim. With this clear goal set, the question was how could it be done? Step by Step did Judy met the right people and the concept was born to attract the crowd with spectacular Events and pay the monthly Linden Fees with the rent of the Shopping Mall. Support activities and Charity was also right from the beginning a companion of the Velvet Garter project.

Kiko Hunniton: Judy, would you please be so kind and tell us about your secret for success?

Judy Greymoon: Well, i can tell you what i believe are our core values and strengths. The core values are as follows: We wanted to have a place where every women of Second Life would feel comfortable. An "including" environment, that would not categorize anybody on any particular way. In other words, we really just want to have fun in a cozy and comfortable environment. This includes the total attention to the guests for any opinion, feedback, suggestion, desire they might bring to the table. I have been at other Sim´s where for any given reason I did not feel comfortable or welcome. If and when i brought that to the attention of some representative, in most cases I have been dismissed, often unpolitely. Here in our Sim, if a guest brings any issue to our attention we listen to it carefully and set appropriate actions. This creates a well and home feeling we cherish. Everybody deserves a respectful and friendly atmosphere and needs to be treated like a member of a family coming back visiting.

The next important area, is one that is often overlooked; total respect for any employee, worker and business partner. It is fostering for an environment of mutual trust and respect that every staff member feels like being part of a family. We do use the word family in a genuine meaning, not a sort of pseudo hurray parole. Family means, beside mutual respect, development of the whole personality in a safe environment. That is the only way they can successfully transport this feeling to our guests.
Another part is to reward the effort. I don't care if an event turns out to be good. I reward the effort and not the result, if something goes wrong we sit together and find out which lesson was learned today and where we have to improve. With honest work and effort the result will come. We don't stare like a rabbit at the bottom line, Second Life gives us the freedom to experiment due to a relative low financial risk and as it turns out; with joy and friends as guests we have success.

Thank you very much Judy for the excellent insight of your successful business venture in Second Life. How this concept and mindset works out in the SL Metaverse can be seen in one of the public events, who are open for both gender, and in the reportage about an actual event on iReport CNN http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-419226. Judy Greymoon created a matriarchy with all the feminine strengths to create a fostering environment. This is in particular interesting as many people believe that in tougher times the whip must swing harder on the back of the employees. Velvet Garter is the living example that an motivated employee is the most valuable source and at the center of the success.
