    Flooding in the Plains

Concordia Women's Fastpitch Lends a Hand

The Concordia College Women's Fastpitch Softball team lent a hand in an effort to save two teammates' former high school from flooding this past Tuesday.

With no practice scheduled, team members, coaches and area alumni met and caravaned to Oak Grove High School to aid in helping the school stay dry from the rising waters of the Red River.

"Its a no-brainer to cancel practice in situations like this," said Head Coach Megan Johnson, "besides it gives a life lesson of teamwork and togetherness that we can't duplicate on the field."

Captain Kayla Trobec ('12, Sartell MN) agrees.  "It provides the importance of teamwork and cooperation.  Every individual has a task and it's  the effort put forth by each individual that makes the difference."

This is the second year the Cobber Women have teamed their efforts together to fight flood waters and it has continued to be a way the team has bonded in the face of adversity.

"They all have such great attitudes and work so hard to fight for members of the community.  It's fun to watch them makes those connections and take part in something bigger than themselves," says Johnson.

As the immediate need for volunteers diminishes, the Cobber women have returned to practice, but keep their "flood fightin' clothes and boots" close at hand, always willing to pull a double duty of practice and sandbagging.

"Being part of a team so willing and excited to help the Fargo Moorhead community in its efforts to fight the flood is very empowering for me," says Captain Kesley Jones ('12 Billings, Mt), "It allows to be part of something so much greater than ourselves."
