Israeli forces clash with Palestinian protesters
Israeli forces have clashed with Palestinians at the Qalandiya checkpoint between Ramallah and Jerusalem (al-Quds) as several demonstrations were held across the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
Further clashes also erupted, when Israeli troopers engaged protesters in Betillo village, west of Ramallah.
Israeli soldiers fired tear gas and stun grenades at stone-hurling Palestinian protesters. There were, however, no reports of injuries or arrests.
Violence also broke out in the Palestinian town of Beita &0151; situated in the southern sector of Nablus in the northern West Bank. No injuries or detentions were reported in the incident.
The demonstrator are protesting against plans for the construction of more Jewish housing units in the predominantly Arab eastern sector of Jerusalem (al-Quds) and the decision to renovate a synagogue in the Old City near the al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
