Do You Remember The Bogeyman? A Tribute to The One Who Tormented My Bedtime.
Letting limbs hang off the side of the bed was not an option, lest the bogeyman reach out to get his supper. He was there, waiting for me to slip up. I could hear his breathing if I held my breath (to be more quiet). Were you told that the bogeyman would come and get you if you didn't behave? Sleepy time could be a terrifying ordeal. Walking at night alone? Forget it. That bogeyman was everywhere-- all seeing, all knowing, ever reaching. The god of nightmares. He was always just a half step behind, you could feel his breath on your neck.
Here's to you, Boogeyman. You kept my adrenaline up, my path straight, and my arms and legs above mattress level.
