    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     renaldof was sponsored by his employer, an engineering firm, to take this trip. He told me, 'the situation there is not beyond repair. In fact, some very basic and simple things can be done to deal with the issues. But the Haitian people have to be a part of that. Unfortunately the government has not adequately engaged the people so that they can work to begin helping themselves. Communication between the government and the people is poor at best and it creates a hopelessness that cripples relief and recovery efforts.'

    When I first got to Haiti, I witnessed first hand the devestating aftermath of the disaster.  This vedio captures what we were seeing on our bus ride into Port Au Prince from Santo Doming.
