Iran announces successful tests of weapons on new destroyer
The Iranian Navy has launched systems tests of its Jamaran destroyer. Jamaran, unveiled in February 2010, has undergone demonstrations of its weapons suite.
The navy reported trials of Jamaran's missile batteries. Officials said the navy fired Nour surface-to-surface missiles from Jamaran during a mission in the southern Gulf.
Iran said the destroyer was equipped with advanced radar and EW systems as well as anti-ship and surface-to-air missiles.
Officials said Jamaran would be operated by the Iranian Navy. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has been granted responsibility for naval operations in the Gulf, with the regular navy assigned to the southern Gulf and Indian Ocean.
