A Message to Anwar Al-Awlaki
To Anwar Al-Awlaki my fellow American and my fellow Muslim,
As American I say to you, I know that our country, the one you call evil, is far from perfect; but the perfection of any country must come from the combine efforts of all people, that includes the Muslims who live here. You, unfortunately, became a lost boy of a promised land, and there are undoubtedly others like you. But to insist that our Muslim youth polarized themselves and expand the already existing ideological divisions- Muslim against non-Muslim, non-Muslim with non-Muslims only, will only plugged up hearts with hatred towards one another. This too, is evil.
As a Muslim I say to you that you have strayed from many of the fundamentals of your religion, and seek to take many with you on a path that is spiritually as well as physically destructive.
You say that With the American invasion of Iraq and continued U.S. aggression against Muslims, “I could not reconcile between living in the U.S. and being a Muslim” and you eventually came to the conclusion that jihad against America is binding upon yourself, just as it is binding on every other Muslim.
I ask you, what kind of jihad is it you speak about? It is not the one sanctioned by Islam because that one does not advocate the murder of innocent people or call upon our brothers to waste their own blood. The jihad I know
