This iReport is part of an assignment:
Passions over health care reform |
Medical Professionals just as divided as citizenry on Health Care Plan
Although I do no work in the medical field,
I am surrounded almost daily by doctors, nurses and other medical field employees and what has amazed me more than anything is how divided the medical community is with regards to health care!
I suppose I should realize they're people too and have varying opinions just like the rest of us.!...lol.
However,
...In my naive perception of reality I was inclined to believe the medical community would swing positively one way or another.
NOT.
This coming Wednesday my daughter will be graduating and start her career as a nurse in most likely New Mexico. As part of her education she must work so many hours at a hospital, which she has been working in ICU for about a year now....Sometimes just for employment purposes and some for college credits.
So I had a request for her "Get a response from all your college professors, local instructors, and your co-workers - nurses, doctors in ICU to determine how they feel about Health Care reform"
*The Result*
- Opinions all over the place from support to non-support.
Next,
I began my own quest in search of the truth on health care...between my family doctor and specialists I'm currently seeing 4 different physicians myself....So I discussed the issues in length with them....SAME result....Opinions all over the place.
Everyone both in the medical field and our nation as a whole knows we need reform....The disagreement comes in the details of what will work best.
Both in my daughter's experience as in mine - those against the current plan and philosophy reason that it doesn't matter how you move the numbers, who you tax more or less or what is subsidized the costs are going up and shifting numbers from one area to another is not going to change the root of the problem....Worldwide rising medical costs...Whether they bankrupt a hospital or a nation that remains the problem.
For example the increased costs to importers and manufacturers of drugs. All this will do in the long run is pass the higher cost of doing business for the drug companies to the consumer whether directly by the people or subsidized by the government - The citizens are still going to pay for it.
Those in favor basically saying something is better than nothing, this is a start and we must do something because we are on a path to the total collapse of the whole health care system as it is now.
I could definitely say in all cases those against had way more to say than those in favor.
Anyway -
This is why - STILL to this day I remain confused on the whole issue.
All I can say is I'm glad I'm not the one casting the vote.
Peace and good health to all of you.!!!!
