Sandstorm
It looked like fog, but it didn't feel like fog. The sandstorm that blanketed the sky yesterday, sand from Beijing now deposited all over Taiwan, felt dry. Here is a picture of the sand on top of a friend's car last night. I've never been in a real sand storm before, so I expected it to be gritty, getting in my teeth and hair and everything. But this sand, traveling so far, was really fine grained and hardly noticeable as it slowly built up a layer on top of everything around Taipei. Now the sand storm has moved into southern Taiwan, essentially covering every part of the island. Northern China has been growing more and more dry over the past decade, causing huge sandstorms to hit Beijing on a regular basis.
