This iReport is part of an assignment:
Severe weather |
more on the sandstorm in Kano, Nigeria.
It is 3:17pm local time and though the dust in the air is reduced considerably, things are still far from normal. It is now common in Kano to see people with surgical masks covering their mouths and noses to protect them from the dust while they go about their daily activities.
Air traffic in Kano is still at a standstill like it has been in the last five days. people intending to travel to other parts of the country by air have resorted to taking a car to Abuja the capital of Nigeria and then getting a flight from there. People who intend to come to Kano do it the other way round.
Here is a picture of the ever busy Airport road/ Murtala Mohammed way traffic junction right in the heart of town. This was taken at 2:38 this afternoon.
