    - katie, CNN iReport producer

In this update on How Life Cafe is Surviving the Economy in New York City, Kathy Kirkpatrick and this iReporter take a walk on Avenue B while we discuss how things are going for Kathy and Life as well as for the neighborhood.

It was another lovely Spring day in the East Village as Kathy talked about how Life survived the winter and her outlook for the spring and summer. Later, we went back inside to sit in her lovely garden out back. It is barely open, but it is a wonderful, peaceful place. We were joined by Kathy's husband John G Sunderland. You will find that interview in Part II 'Into the Garden' on the Economy Tracker.
