    More from Dima

    children of the street

eddy aged 16 does voluntary work with street children in his home city  of beirut the capital of the lebanon.

there are over 100 million children in the world who live on the streets becose they have no home, i do voluntary work for an organisation which helps street children to get off the streets and to lead a normal life.

there is a big difference between street children and street-working children.street working children make money by selling sweets and things then they go home, but work on the streets they sleep on the pavement and in bus shelters they beg steal or sell things to make a living they live in the street.

here in lebanon our organisation found an area where there were lots of street children we talked to about 16 of them and gave them food and first aid slowly they began to trust us and we persuaded them to come to our hostel to eat and sleep. most of the kids wont tell us about their backgrounds.but if they want to talk to us about theiur famillies and where they come from we will lsiten.

we have also started an education programme if kids learn a trade they will have a chance of finding work we want them to make something of their lives
