    Historic Spanish Point, Osprey Florida

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     robsatori123 of Sarasota, Florida, has lived in the area for 40 years and only now did he learn about the wealthy Chicago heiress who purchased much of the land back in 1910. "I love history but I felt so much the presence of Bertha Palmer while I was doing this that it was eerie and exciting. It was almost as if her spirit was winking at me, nudging me on," he said.
    - zdan, CNN iReport producer

Spanish Point, Osprey, Florida was originally an indian habitat and later became the 350 acre winter estate of Mrs. Bertha Palmer, a wealthy heiress from Chicago, who in 1910 fell in love with Sarasota, Osprey and the surrounding areas.  She was so enamored with the bayfront location on Florida’s Central West Coast, that she purchased tens of thousands of acres for cattle ranching, citrus groves and real estate development.

A portion of the original construction and eventual restoration of the grounds is brought back to life in this video.  Enjoy the past and present of Spanish Point!

Piano by Rob Satori, song "Paradise At Last" by Diana Colson.
