Weekend assignment: Past and present |
Past and Present: CROSSROADS 1940-2010
- zdan, CNN iReport producer
I take you to the Kerkstraat (Church road) in the little village of Ubachsberg in the south of the Netherlands, near the German border.
I carry with me, a war picture from May 1940, taken by a German officer who made a special photo album travelling all over Europe.
A central spot is given to the characteristic white house of my grandparents, that has remained the same.
The picture was handed to me by request by the renowned Dutch author and poet Remco Campert, who found the alledged photo album and made a documentary about it.
He was happy to give it to me, and my grandparents, for good, and we are all very grateful for that to this day. :)
