    Chimney Rock, Nebraska: 1906 and 2010

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     scbcitizen discovered that not much has changed at Chimney Rock National Historic Site in Bayard, Nebraska. She matched up a 1906 photo of a pioneer retracing the Oregon Trail. "Oregon/California Trail reenactments are a big deal in western Nebraska these days. I learned that even in 1906, people were doing overland trail reenactments, although back then, actual pioneers were part of the troupe!" she said.

    I recently moved to the panhandle of Nebraska, and I've found that pioneer and overland trail history is a big deal here. This assignment is a perfect excuse to visually bring the past into the present. Here's a photo I took this weekend of Chimney Rock, an important waypoint on the American journey west, juxtaposed with a 1906 reenactement by Ezra Meeker, an 1852 pioneer.
