Crisis in Kyrgyzstan |
Bishkek April 8th after a night of looting
The morning after a tumultuous day of events, Bishkek woke up to find itself reliving the events of 2005 when looters marauded through the streets of Bishkek.
The major store chain, "Narodni" or "The People" was ransacked and looters were still stripping the building down. Further down the street at the White House everyone was helping themselves to office furniture, carpets, maps, etc... I witnessed two women attempting to run off with a very large Kyrgyz carpet. No police or military to be seen.
Some businesses put up signs "we are with the people" and remained untouched, while others that catered to the Bishkek elite were burnt to the ground.
