Weekend assignment: How far can $10 go?

    $10 - Trader Joe's vs. Ralphs

I wanted to see how much $10 would go if I bought groceries at Trader Joe's and Ralphs since they were across the street from each other. I decided to grocery from the store's own brand. Here are my findings:

    Trader Joe's Brand:

$1.29 Fat Free Milk - Quart

    $1.99 Orange Juice - 1/2 Gallon

$2.49 Organic Free Range Half Dozen Eggs

$3.82 Boneless Pork Cutlets (.85 lbs.)

    Total: $9.59

    Ralphs Brand (Club Card):

    $1.50 Value Raisin Bran

    $1.49 Orange Juice - Quart

    $1.39 Lowfat 1% Milk - Quart

$1.99 XL Grade AA Half Dozen Eggs

$3.44 All Natural Pork Chops (.53 lbs.)

    Total: 9.81

Even though I get Raisin Bran at Ralphs, I would still spend my $10 at Trader Joe's because I get more meat and healthy options with regards to my milk and eggs. Ralphs didn't have non-fat milk nor did it have organic free range eggs.
