Do you swear by your Neti Pot? |
Started neti a year ago...Love it!
It has been a great addition to my toothbrushing routine this past year. I'm so happy using it and try to gently persuade my doubtful friends and family to try it whenever the topic of stuffy noses comes up. I'm usually met with the response of, "I might accidentally drown myself." Very funny, but no, that won't happen. It all started when I was suffering from some bad nasal congestion but didn't like the OTC med side effects. I was desperate for some relief and was thrilled to see the drugstore had the neti pot. Been using it regularly ever since and experiencing less frequent and less severe colds.
During most weekday mornings there is too much of a rush to add time for neti, but at least on the weekend mornings and every evening I look forward to my nasal rinse. Especially if I know I've been around a lot of dust or exposed to a lot of outdoor pollen during the day, it is a relief to know I am able to get much of that "junk" out and have a more restful sleep because I'm able to breathe so freely. There is such an amazing difference!
My tips - (1) New users should be careful not to blow their nose so roughly after a rinse because you can accidently blow some residual fluid into your ear canal which is very bothersome and takes a couple days to clear up...I learned this the hard way the first time I used my neti and didn't read ALL the instructions and warnings before using it. I guess I was too excited to get started. Gently blow the nose! (2) Once you get hooked on the neti, get the big box of pre-measured packets of the "salt" at the drugstore. It makes it super convenient, especially when you're travelling away from home with your neti. I'm definitely bringing my neti pot the next time I go camping.
Its not really all that gross to rinse out your nasal and sinus passages, like some people perceive it. I would compare it to brushing ones teeth. They're both healthy habits that you don't necessaily want others watching you do. Now if I could only do both at the same time.
