Cedar Rapids Flood Damage
During a recent trip to Cedar Rapids, Iowa I was amazed at the damage. I saw the train bridge in the Cedar River with box cars on it trying to prevent the collapse, a large pontoon boat on top of a large garage (the garage moved to another property) and streets lined with the mountains of the contents (appliances, carpet, floors, walls, cabinets) of the houses. The damage stretches from 12-18 blocks from the river. Near the river the water was deep with water going 6 feet up the house walls. The entire area, particularly the inside of the houses, smell fishy like the river. Though I am not certain, I was left with the impression that the Cedar Rapids waste treatment plant is not working, causing the raw sewage from 150,000 people being dumped in the river.
