Exploding Meteor Seen and Heard Across the Midwest

Between 10 pm and 10:30 pm CST an exploding meteor or bolide was witnessed by thousands across the Midwest. Eyewitnesses in Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois and as far away as Ohio saw a bright blue green meteor light up the night sky and explode. They could even hear it rumble across the sky which led some 911 callers to think maybe it was a missile attack of some sort. The meteor was seen moving in a Northwest to Southeast direction.

2 1/2 hours later, there was already a Facebook Fan page for "I Survived the April 14th Meteor Explosion" and it had 293 fans at that time growing to 391 fans by 6:30 am CST. It shows how wonderfully and fast social networking allows people to connect and share a common experience.

A color video was posted online as well as an animated gif and can be found at Mark Schnackenberg's Weather Blog at KWWL: http://addins.kwwl.com/blogs/weather/archives/8863
