    Parents further explain their plan $55 million plan to end school furloughs - April 16, 2010

     

    HONOLULU - Lois Yamauchi and Liam Skilling of Save Our Schools discuss likelihood that Hawai'i school furloughs crisis will be solved by 2011, and also the rising tide of community involvement and increasingly intense attention directed at Hawai'i by national media.  State Capitol, Honolulu, HI

     

    The plan would use funds from the Hurricane Relief Funds, and other state sources to eliminate nine furlough days, at a cost of $55 million.  In addition, teachers would teach on six of what had been planning days, as they had agreed to do with the BOE.  The plan costs about $7 million less than what Gov. Lingle has already offered to release to eliminate school furloughs .
