We hunt waterfalls for fun here in the Pacific Northwest.  Its not difficult to find them, but when we go hunting we almost always stumble onto something we never expected.  This trip was one of those times.

May through early June is prime waterfall viewing in semi-good weather.  Its not too cold but the rivers are running high and powerfully.  This combination makes for spectacular waterfall viewing.

Along the McKenzie River fifty miles east of Eugene, Oregon  is a place of magic and beauty.  With a lodge, camping sites, cabins and two mineral pools which we didn't know existed until we happened upon the place.  The first time we walked right by all of that and headed for the bridge and higher ground.  That is when we found the most awesome sight.

The gardens.  Manicured lawns, a secret garden, a heart garden - the list goes on and on.  We spent a few hours there and walked along the river, through expanses with waterfalls and structures.  Weddings are held there and I understand why.

With our Compact Camping Concepts Explorer Box, we rented a tent space for $19.50,  took a dip in one of the pools for $6.50 an hour, came back to cook dinner then were peacefully lulled asleep by the McKenzie River.  We enjoyed ourselves and so will you.

If you go, be sure to take good walking shoes and a bathing suit.  You wouldn't want to miss the hot springs mineral pools or an inch of the lovely gardens.
