Helping the silent victims of the foreclosure crisis: Catkins Animal Rescue
Catkins Animal Rescue in Fifield, WI specializes in two types of animal rescue: dogs from high kill shelters and animals abandoned in foreclosure homes.
Catkins Animal Rescue is different in many ways, but one of the most interesting ways is that none of her cats are kept in cages. She and the volunteers (it is completely volunteer run) built an amazing Cattery where all the cats (after they have been assessed for health issues) are able to roam freely and socialize. All the dogs are either fostered out in volunteer's homes, or live at Laura's home.
This woman is amazing. She runs the organization from her home, while working another full time job. It is not a large shelter, but it makes a big difference in the lives of animals abandoned by their owners when they leave their foreclosed home.
Her website on Petfinder is http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/catkins.html
