Air Crash in Mangalore Airport India

An Air India Express aircraft from  Dubai has overshot the runway while  landing at the Mangalore airport.  The plane has crashed and rescue work  is on.

The flight reportedly  had 156  passengers, 6 crew members

Mangalore airport  has a table-top runway which means that it is located on a  hill top,  which demands accuracy and no room for error while landing.

The  Air India plane crashed and burst into flames as it was landing in  the  city of Mangalore, local media reported.

New Delhi TV  reported the plane fell off the end of a cliff at the  end of the  landing strip meaning rescue operations will be difficult,  but there  are reports of survivors.

So far, six people are believed to be  alive and receiving treatment.

There have been reports the plane  touched down properly but could not  stop.

The airport received no distress  call from the pilot as the aircraft  flew in.

Television  footage suggested the plane had broken apart and showed  smoke billowing  from the wreckage as rescue workers tried to put out the  flames with  foam

One passenger jumped  off the plane after the crash

25 fire fighters and ambulances at the crash  site.  Terrain is making it very difficult
