    Flash mob for good

Hundreds of Mobsters show up in Elgin IL

ELGIN IL, June 4, 2010, #somob4good, organized by Sarah Evans, happened downtown Elgin, IL at 1:00 PM. It was reported by Evans to be a worldwide Social Media event in 15 cities, originating in Elgin IL and including Brussels and Honolulu. Social Mob 4 Good (#somob4good), a world wide flash mob to raise awareness for social service agencies. The intent of the "mob" is ultimately to raise awareness and the profile of each city's local service agencies.

When I got there people were suspiciously milling about with umbrellas. A few people were taking pictures. Suddenly at exactly 1:00 PM music started playing and all the mobsters opened their umbrellas and danced. Tee shirts were in abundance for the Community  Crisis Center, http://www.crisiscenter.org, the YWCA http://www.ywcaelgin.org and The United Way of Elgin http://www.liveunited.org.

There were restaurants nearby with quite a few outdoor tables and patrons who saw the event unfold,. In ten minutes the music ended and everyone took off. The public at least rediscovered the power of a group of people gathering in a public place to express their views and became aware of the social services in the area.

Altogether it was a great underground mob event that flashed on the scene and actually was quite ruly.
