Clean Up Effort at Grand Isle, LA Part II
- hhanks, CNN iReport producer
After seeing all of the news reports I decided to I drive down to Grand Isle, LA on Sunday, June 6, 2010 to see it for myself. I managed to get access to the beach, but was not allowed passed the absorbent boom and the sand bags. There was an Army unit and a lot of individual volunteers wearing HAZMAT (hazardous material) suits collecting the oil that has washed up on the beach.
I can only imagine how devastating this must be for a community that is almost entirely dependent upon fishing and local tourism for their income. There where signs and paintings hung up throughout the community depicting their frustration with both BP and the government and from the looks of things, those signs won't be coming down any time soon.
